Broodmare Board - Opening December 1

Here at Hammock Farm we specialize in young horses. Our services include FOALING OUT MARES AND RAISING YOUNG STOCK. We provide large foaling stalls with closed circut TV. Deep straw bedding in clean stalls. Water intake is monitored closely and mares are fed an excellent nutritionally complete feed program designed to minimize any orthopedic, OCD, and club footed problems. We have knowledgable hoof care and vet professionals that have educated themselves especially on the care and prevention of problems associated with mares and their foals. Our maximum foaling number is 8 mares. This enables us to give each mare and foal all the attention that they need. As soon as your foal hits the ground we begin his socialization. All foals are handled twice a day. By the time the foals are weaned they are leading, standing tied next to their dams for grooming, hoof cleaning, and hoseing. After weaning the foals participate in our weaning social program. They learn good manners on the lead. How to deal with scary stuff like umbrellas, tarps, bags, walking through tight places, etc. Weanlings also continue their trailer loading skills that they started with their dams. As the weanling approches his first birthday he will participate in local field trips. All our foals are allowed 18 to 20 hours of turnout to build strong bones, sound bodies, and sound minds. 4 to 6 hours per day is spent in a stall to develop their ease at being alone, provide a comfy nest for a good nap, and re-inforce good manners at feeding time. Foals and broodmares are fed at least three times each day and they never go more then a few hours without something to munch on so as to prevent ulcers, spikes in blood sugar, colics, and laminitis. De-worming and vaccinations are done on schedule. Our goal is for you to have a calm, strong, sound and athletic young horse.

Puntero VI

Considering breeding your mare in 2009? A decision not to be taken lightly. In these economically tough times with so many unwanted horses it should be a long and hard thought process to decide to breed your mare. You want to make sure that you will have either a saleable foal or the ONE that you would like to keep. If you have a quality mare then breeding to Puntero VI should assure you both a saleable foal AND the ONE horse of your lifetime. Puntero is such a joy to have as a breeding and riding stallion. He lives quietly in the barn with his mares. His mares and foals are right next to the dressage arena and still Puntero is ever the gentlemen! When I call him up out of his paddock he will come running up looking all for the world like he is going to run me over. At the last minute he slides to a stop with his mane flying (Isn't that romantic!)and then usually coughs grass goo all over my shirt. Well, I guess he's not the perfect stallion after all! But, his offspring (according to many of their owners) are just about perfect! It is so nice to talk to Puntero offspring owners and how much they are enjoying their Puntero babies. The are good movers of excellent character, athletic, and sound. Very fun to train and live with. Come join the fun and breed your good mare to Puntero VI!
